This time we will be introducing Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort, which has been talked about on social media as offering breathtaking views!
This is a highly recommended tourist spot that is about 10 minutes by car from Hotel Sierra Resort Hakuba.

About Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort

Hakuba Iwatake, located in Hakuba Village, Kitaazumi District, Nagano Prefecture, is a mountain resort at an altitude of 1,280m.
This is a mountain resort where you can enjoy a variety of activities surrounded by magnificent scenery throughout the four seasons.
This mountain resort offers special experiences all year round, including scenic spots from which you can see the most beautiful views of the Hakuba Sanzan mountains (Dake Hakuba, Dake Shakushi, and Dake Yari), as well as trekking, mountain biking, and winter sports.

Let's go to Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort

A 10-minute gondola ride from the gondola station will take you to the summit at an altitude of 1,280 meters.
The gondola base station building has a variety of facilities, including toilets, vending machines, a souvenir shop, and lockers.
The ticket prices for the gondola (Noah) that goes up to the top of the mountain are as follows:
2,400 yen for adults, 1,300 yen for elementary school students, free for preschoolers *This admission fee includes the lift fee to Hakuba Hitotoki no Mori.
In addition, at Hotel Sierra Resort Hakuba, you can purchase tickets in advance at a discounted rate!

Take the gondola to the top of the mountain

The gondola takes about 7 or 8 minutes to travel the 540m difference in altitude!
You can enjoy the lush green trees from spring to summer, and the colorful foliage in autumn.
If you keep your eyes on the ground, you might even see people enjoying mountain biking!

Arriving at the summit

When you get off the gondola, you will arrive at the summit of Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort!
It is located at an altitude of about 1,280m, and the temperature feels lower than at the foot of the mountain!

Enjoy the view

When you think of Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort, the first thing that comes to mind is the scenery!!
Mountain Harbor, overlooking the Hakuba Sanzan mountains (Mt. Hakuba, Mt. Shakushi, and Mt. Hakuba Yari), offers an overwhelming view that will take your breath away!
City Bakery also has terrace seating where you can enjoy your meals.
The deck jutting out towards the mountain is a very popular photo spot!
If you take a photo here, it's sure to look great.

And when it comes to Iwatake, there's Yoo-Hoo SWING!
A spectacular swing famous for making you feel like Heidi!
You can enjoy it for about 2 minutes for 500 yen per session!
It's a popular spot where you may have to wait in line for over 100 minutes on weekends.
However, General Manager Utsumi was unable to ride due to being over the weight limit...

In addition, the Hakuba Giant Swing, Japan's first and largest wind-up super-large swing, will open in the fall of 2023, allowing you to experience both spectacular views and thrills!
There are also other walking paths, such as Nezuko Forest, where you can enjoy a variety of scenery.

Enjoy the activities

At Iwatake Mountain Harbor, there are many other activities available besides the Yahoo Swing we introduced earlier.
Just to give a brief summary, the activities available are as follows: mountain carts, mountain bikes, horse riding, buggy cruises, and e-bikes. *Events may vary depending on the day, so we recommend checking in advance.

Since it is not possible to introduce everything, I will introduce some activities that I particularly recommend.
[Mountain Cart]
Mountain carts are popular in Europe.
It was introduced as a new activity at Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort in 2021.
We will ride in a cart down the 1.4 km descent from the summit to the Hitotokino Mori area.
There is no age restriction, but the height restriction is 140cm or above.
It is a mountain activity that does not have an engine and you race down the mountain by steering and braking from the top of the mountain. It is designed so that even beginners can enjoy it safely.
This course offers a thrilling experience, overlooking the town of Shirauma and the magnificent view of the Northern Alps.
There are also photo spots along the course where you can take pictures with Hakuba Village and the Northern Alps in the background.
 

Enjoy your meal

You can enjoy a meal at Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Harbor.

First, let’s start with City Bakery, which I mentioned a little earlier.
Here you can enjoy delicious sandwiches and coffee while enjoying the spectacular views.
The limited menu item "Hakuba Pork Pretzel Croissant Sandwich" is also delicious, and you can enjoy a very luxurious feeling while looking at the magnificent view.

Next we will introduce 【CHAVATY HAKUBA】
CHAVATY HAKUBA is located in the new observation area, Hakuba Hitotoki no Mori, which opened on April 28, 2022.
To get to Hakuba Hitotoki no Mori, take the 5th South Lift from the summit.
You can enjoy delicious tea lattes and scones here.
The "Kuromoji" scone, which is only available in Hakuba, is particularly delicious.
It tastes even better when spread with salted whipped butter.
"Kuromoji" grows in abundance in Hakuba Hitotokinomori, and has long been used to make tea and to make high-quality toothpicks.

And finally, we would like to introduce the Skymark Deck Cafe.
Here you can eat curry rice made in collaboration with a famous restaurant in Hakuba.
Among them, we especially recommend the domestic lamb black curry made by the famous Hakuba restaurant Miyama Genghis Khan!
Here you can eat Genghis Khan Miyama's special black curry made with domestic lamb, which is so popular that reservations are impossible to get.
